Sweetest little baby face?

I've got the bookmaking bug again at the min!!
I've spent all day making this one.....blame it on the rain.....I was planning on being on the allotment but that idea was washed away!!

I had these book covers lurking around......they had been something else and were looking a bit moth eaten!
That's OK, I like to recycle!

 They became this.

I love the way the ink soaked into the pre-existing stitch holes.......I used the inside of the original book covers as the outside of the new book

The faces were stitched onto seperate pieces of card and then inserted with more stitching into holes in the pages

Faces added along the page edges so they peep round the edges and from under the cover

School book journal

I was recently invited to join COLLABOR-ART blog......a new blog out there hosting swaps and exchanges.............I have joined what is called PAIRS JOURNALS..... 2 people are paired, we each buy or make a journal, choose a theme, prep a few pages and then post off to the other person.....who does the same with their journal......and we then work in each others journals, send them back and carry on.
So, this is my journal. I bought a school exercise book.....my theme is
ALPHABETIKA

when I was at school we had to cover our exercise books so, I took the top sheet off the pad I work on and used it to cover my journal...............I used tape to fasten it inside, I want it to look a little childish!

Then I added my name inside.................

I decided to work on an "A" page.....what else could A be for other than ALICE!

It is for my partner to decide if this page is finished.....if it's not she can add to it, I'll wait to see when it comes back!

I've been making books!

I used coptic stitch to bind my little books

Much sticking of old book pages, splattering of inks, stamping and alphabet rub-ons (again) to decorate my pages which are actually small file folders

The covers of this one is an old book cover cut up to fit

This smaller book has corrugated card for the covers and I kept the decoration lighter and  brighter.......a challenge for me!

Again old book pages, a quick spray of yellow ink, a couple of stamped umbels
 and alphabet rub-ons!

I'd forgotten how much I like to make books......I'll be making more:)

St.George and the dragon

Today is St George's Day.
Did you know that St George isn't just the patron saint of England?
He is the patron of lots of places and of other things!

This is a pic I took of St George in a church in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Face brushes

A few posts ago I showed this face mould and brush as a WIP ..........

not long afterwards I moulded some faces with air dry clay and added them to some paintbrushes.....added eyes and some nails......then they sat around to dry and for time for the next step to happen...................

So, today having been rained off the allotment I headed to the studio to play with them some more........I'm really happy with the way they came out

I especially like the one-eyed one:)

Credit where it is due......I was completely inspired by Michael deMeng.....I do LOVE his work......he has made brushes with faces before now!

1 2 3

Those leftover letter stickers and rub ons were sitting on my desk......no point putting just those few away so rather than dump them I decided to use them

I had this page already done.......

 it became this!!
It came out a lot busier than I expected......funny how things just develop

Do you find when you make something that you like particular parts of it  better than others?
Or is that just me?
Anyway......I really like the bit above and the one below.....the heads stamp from STAMPOTIQUE is one of my favs

Stickers????

I am home from my few days in Suffolk and have spent most of today dusting, wiping, vacuuming and mopping.......with the downstairs all done I decided to treat myself to some studio time:)

Stickers are not something I use very often but I do have a supply of them......particularly alphabet ones........ stashed away from years ago.
Then I saw this on Donna Downeys blog recently and it made me think.........

This pic is one I took in a doll hospital in Portugal last year

The big number 6 and the 123 stencils were lurking on my desk...................

along with stickers.........I used all the left-over letters from this sheet.....there are some numbers left for another project...........I used some small rub-on letters

Angels and rood screens

I'm in Suffolk for a few days.
Today we went church visiting........Suffolk has some beautiful churches, I thought I'd share a couple wih you.

The first is St Marys in Huntingfield............it has the most beautiful painted ceiling and angels.

The second is St Andrew's in Bramfield which has an original rood screen that although the paint is peeling away and is very faded is still extremely beautiful.
This painting of Mary Magdalene is just stunning.
