SUNDAY POST CARD ART is a challenge site I have been aware of for some time but I have never take part in any of their challenges...........until today that is! How could I resist the theme of MUSHROOMS as I seem to have been playing with this mushroom stamp all week!
Have also been a little ALICE obsessed recently, even more so than usual as I have been using the new Graphic 45 papers so I decided to combine Alice with the mushroom.
If you have seen Tim Burtons film version of Alice you will know that Absolom (the caterpillar) turns into a beautiful butterfly who Alice sses at the end of the film..................I'm not such a butterfly fan so in my version here Absolom turns into a moth!
Thought I would also show you another version of the journal page I made a few posts back.......that now lives with Wendy at The Stamp Attic so I made another version for me. A little more stamping on this one, there's that mushroom again!
This weeks challenge on THE STAMPOTIQUE DESIGNERS challenge site is WINGS, WINGS, WINGS. I have been thinking what I could do for this and finally it hit me today so here is my entry!
This is worked on an old book cover. I stuck a book page onto the cover and then sprayed it with my new favourite thing.......an opaque proper white spray! It is a Memories Mist (available from The Stamp Attic, not on the web site but call if interested!) spray called Whipped Cream. Once dry I stamped the HEADS over it and added the MUSHROOM images and other bits and pieces.
OK, OK so I know that pumpkins don't have wings normally but what the heck!!
And yes that is a zip along the bottom!!
I just LOVE this heads stamp!
My pumpkins were made of Plaster of Paris poured into a chocolate mould. Once dry they were painted.
While I was working on this piece I also prepped a journal page ready for future use cos I know something you might not.........there are NEW STAMPOTIQUE IMAGEScoming soon..........they are now available for PRE_ORDER HERE IN THE UK
I love using text in my stuff.......old book pages, stamped quotes and verses etc etc so when I saw that CRUSADE 43 on MICHELLE WARDS challenge site was called TEXT MESSAGING I just had to have a go.
The prompt is to use text cut from newspapers or magazines and to use them as backgrounds. Here are my two journals with their random text glued in place.
Next was what to do to them next! I actually really liked them as they were but decided to be brave and go on!!
Here is the bigger of the journals........I cut a heart stencil and used both parts of it and sprayed through and round them. I like the way the newsprint I had used absorbed the ink, it made it look old.
Here is how it ended up! There were stages when I thought I hated it but I have to say I DO like it now!!
Here is the smaller journal.......this one was sprayed all over with green, then stamped onto and stencilled onto through sequin waste.
I just want to say thanks for the lovely encouraging comments that have been left over the last few posts, I appreciate them all..........I get the message, no more minimal for me!
I spotted a new challenge site this morning, Simon says stamp and show where the theme is "things with wings", now there is nothing I like more than a "thing with wings" especially if it a bit out of the ordinary and I think this qualifies! I just love this bird doll set from INVOKE ARTS so I decided to have a play and this is what appeared!
The ring at the bottom is the inside of a double sided tape reel, covered with paper, holes poked through and buttons wired in place. I really enjoyed making the button border on yesterdays post so decided to have another play with the idea.......it was a bit harder round this reel and I had to resort to a pair of pliers to pull the wire through!

I came across a new (well new to me) challenge blog a while ago called OH ALICE!
The challenge this week is white gloves, white rabbit WHITE WONDERLAND..........everything in your piece has to be white apart from the central image. Great idea for a theme but a nightmare to photograph! My background is made of four different Cuttlebug embossed pieces......cobweb, pumpkins, skulls and Queen of Hearts.
For my main image I made a collage of lots of bits and pieces mostly taken from the Hallowe'en Wonderland papers by Graphic 45 with a couple of stamped images from Invke Arts.
There is an extra embossed heart here too, as I said hard to photograph!
Then there is my button edge, again not easy to show that it stands out from the edge.

Now I believe in credit where it's due.........this button edge is inspired by INGRID DIJKERS.......she has an article in the latest Stampington mage ART JOURNALLING about making the edges of your journal pages more interesting and I just loved the button edging she had done.
A few posts back I mentioned that I had been on a card making workshop taught by Sarah Anderson. Today I pulled out one of my journals to work on something completely different and lots of bits and pieces I had made at that workshop and not used fell out. So, not wanting to waste them I decided to use them up before working on my next idea!
I had also coloured a page in the journal while at that class so I had a ready made background to work on.
This is the result! I am quite pleased with it so far though feel it needs words of some sort......think I will wait till the right ones come along and add them then........one of the beauties of working in a journal I find, you can go back and add stuff!
The strip with the half a cog, stitching and smal circles................that was the edge of a card I didn't much like! I like it much better now!
The cogs are Tim Holtz and the flowers are also die cut......sorry don't know the maker. I'm not much of a die cutter but I have to say I now have the cogs die on its way and I do like the flowers!
This next page is on the same theme of using up leftovers but also of trying to work in a simple, minimal way which I find SO HARD! Although I like the way this looks it just feels like it needs something more!! Especially the edges of the pages, they look so bare to me!!!
Any ideas or thoughts? Be honest here, I am curious to know how others feel about this!
Guess where I went this week?!
I had a friend to stay this last week and so have been out and about and this is one of the places we decided to visit.
For anyone reading this that doesn't know THE LOWRY it is a gallery at Salford Quays dedicated to the work of LS LOWRY a famous artist from Salford.We had a lovely visit and it prompted me to make a journal page!
While there I bought a sheet of wrapping paper with the distinctive Lowry stick figures all over it and several postcards. I stuck a piece of the wrapping paper in my journal and then applied gesso over it to tone it down a little. Then I cut up the postcards and arranged the images on my page. The letters for the title were cut from the Radio Times......an ever useful magazine!
I just love the one of the man lying on a wall! I got that as a bookmark too (I collect bookmarks)! The two standing figures were a seperate postcard, I just added them over the image of the man on the wall!
Very simple but so effective image of a dog! The images were outlined with charcoal pencil and smudged to make them stand out more.
Noooooo not a strange new recipe but stuff from my garden!
I have a friend staying at the min so no time to make new art to show but I thought I'd share this FAB fennel plant from my garden. It obviously loved the hot dry weather we had erarlier this summer as it is enormous! I love umbelliferous plants........the shape is so pleasing somehow!
While I was out admiring the fennel plant I suddenly spotted this little guy sitting in the gravel. I picked him up and he curled up.......so cute! A bit of a sad story really as I realised he was not actually looking that well, he could not walk properly and was out in the day time, never a good sign with hedgehogs..........so off to the local wildlfe hospital we went! I hope he recovered.
The PLAY DATE CAFE this week features A SPLASH OF COLOUR ..........black and white with a splash of green.
As I was thinking about what to do I realised that one of the new GRAPHIC 45 HALLOWEEN WONDERLAND papers, Alices Tea Party, was predominantly green so I cut out four Alice images from it along with some of the chequered borders and my page started to come together.
Stamped swirls helped to fill in the space and some dots to highlight the figures.
Words added are from INVOKE ARTS and are available from THE STAMP ATTIC along with the Graphic 45 papers.
As someone who likes Alice in Wonderland and Hallowe'en can you imagine my excitement when I heard that GRAPHIC 45 had a new range of papers called HALLOWE'EN WONDERLAND that combines Alice and Hallowe'en and that WENDY at THE STAMP ATTIC is stocking it? Let me tell you I was EXCITED!! And even more so when WENDY sent me a set as part of my design team package!
My first pieces using these fab papers are these ATCs.
Yesterday I went to a workshop taught by SARAH ANDERSON.......it was called "ADVANCED CARD TECHNIQUES"
I am not much of card maker these days so Sarah said why not apply the ideas to a journal page so that is what I did. I made one of my "cards" into a pocket for my journal by turning it side ways and sewing it in place.
I also decorated the page itself with one of the ideas Sarah showed us.
Isn't this little character so cute.....oops I mean whimsical, I don't do cute!! He is CARROT by STAMPOTIQUE and is available from THE STAMP ATTIC
Having said that I don't do cards I did actually make just one during the workshop..........isn't that cloud of butterflies lovely? It is a cupcake wrapper from Hobbycraft.
