HIBOU GRUNGE

This week the challenge on SIMON SAYS STAMP AND SHOW is to show your grunge! I never really know what is meant by "grunge" so I looked it up! Apart from talking about grunge music the main definition seems to be "the state of being covered with unclean things, grime, soil, dirt, filth, grease, stain!" I even found one definition that described it as "cleaning the grunge from under the microwave"!!! Why under the microwave should be any grungier than elsewhere I don't know!
Anyway I hope no-one thinks my "grunge" offering should be relegated to under the microwave.......please don't say so if you do!!!!

Here is my HIBOU book.......hibou is French for owl and I only use it cos I like the word.

The pages inside, they are attached to the cover (more about that in a min) with a simple pamphlet stitch.

With the ties closing the book.
OK confession time.........my book cover is made of..............GRUNGEPAPER!! I know, I know, the stuff I don't much like..........well, one of the DT nspiration pieces on the Simon Says blog is a book made with grungepaper, so I thought mmmmm will give that a try, I knew I had some somewhere.
Then again looking at the DT pieces there was another using a Tim technique called rusted enamel, it's in his book but a quick online search soon found a Youtube video showing how to do it.........so I used that on the cover too and I REALLY like the way it came out! See, I don't hate all things TIm!

I think this is gorgoeus. Love that stitch you used for the cover. (I'd have to draw mine on...) The inside cover of the book is fab too. Love your grunge - don't hide it under the microwave!

Love this idea....of using grungepaper for the book cover, yours is awesome with lots of detail as usual. If I may ... I would like to pinch the idea?

Great piece Sue, I love love that Owl, which stamp is that? Like the rusted enamel on the book too, very effective. The Grungepaper works really well as a book cover, I can see you using that idea again sometime soon. See you tomorrow mate, Tracy x

Hi Sue, I think your grunge should be on display for the world to see, just love the crazy way the pages open and your owl is gorgeous. I think you have a slice of mica on the front, looks good anyway! Great textures. :0) xx

Sue... this is awesome... those rubons turned out well on the grunge, I always seem to have trouble with them. Is that mica over the top of the owl... Everything about this is awesome... And I love your blog, I am now a fan of jabberwocky !!!!!

What a great book! Love it inside and out - inside pages look wonderful! I've never used grunge paper but looks like it worked out perfect for this book. Love the rub on letters too. And, since I love anything owl I would be really really disappointed if this ended up under my microwave (I'm scared to even look there now).
Awesome job Sue!

Love your book, and I never knew about the word Hibou! You've got me thinking about books made with grungepaper now - I don't much like it either but I adore how it smells! Your art journalling is wonderful and I've added you to my blogs list because I know I want to come back often.
