Doll face

Yesterday was a good foraging day:)
At a car boot sale in town I picked up all these dolls for just £4!! They were in a pretty sorry state, some of them were wet and mildewy and smelled pretty bad but once they were dismantled and washed they were better!

I particularly liked these two as they are a bit different......so, printed pics of them using my Poloroid Pogo printer and used them to make a quick journal page.

It's not quite as pink as this in real life:)
I used some painted pages that I had pulled out of another journal rather than chuck them in the bin......kept the binding edges, I like the way they look:)

heating the pics with a heat gun made them change colour......I like the funky look it gave them:)

And finally a little rant........you can skip this bit if you like!

One thing I hate about craft stuff is the inflated prices things get once they are associated with craft...... I used this little stapler to staple the pics in place....... it cost less than £2 from a high street stationer and the staples are the same size as the so called "tiny attacher" which costs anything from £12 upwards and is just a stapler....looks a bit fancier but is still just a stapler.....rant over:)

Trying a different

style of journalling......well different for me anyway.
As you may know I LOVE being out and about, expoloring new places, seeing new things, and while doing those things I tend to collect leaflets, postcards, bits of crap or ephemera as it's also called:)
In the past I have used some of those things to make journal pages but I end up with lots that never get used, stuffed in a bag and eventually months or years later gets chucked out.

So, after seeing THIS POST   (thanks for the inspiration Catherine) I decided I would  use the things I collect and make a journal with no stress on making it looking "arty" or clever or inky or painty.....that way it takes a shorter time to do the pages and I'm more likely to get it done!

So, I started with pages for a recent trip to London to visit 2 museums

this page has a fold down flap that also acts as a pocket.........

....under the flap I stuck the intro to the exhibition

cut pics from the exhibition booklet and these slot into the pocket

the stuff from the second exhibition is on the opposite page

Next pages are a visit to Wenlock Priory in Much Wenlock

on these pages I used some small pics printed with my Poloroid Pogo printer.....not used it in a while but will be more in the future

I do find this a harder way to work as the pages somehow don't quite look finished to me but I do like using the stuff I've collected so I am sure I will get used to it:)

Fun finds

Yesterdays fun finds........or more junk to put in the cupboard depending on whether you listen to me or my husband:)

I have plans for the clown puppet and the crucifix but not the other figure.....yet.....she does look quite angelic though:)

On display

this is one of the old doll heads I bought a few days ago....................I didn't want to alter it but did need a way to display it, so........

I attached it to an old light fitting that had come with a lamp I used for something else......

then I took a ceiling light fitting that was taken down when we had our house renovated last year........and covered it with paper

and then coloured it with inks, added  letter rub-ons and wavy lines with a nib pen

finally glued the head in place.

 On display!

Finally.......for Lisa who wanted to see the earrings I bought the other day!
They are made from the bone spine of a fan and the setting is from a 1930's cigarette case by DEBORAH KING

Snowdrops and a priory

It was a lovely day today so we decided to head out for the day.
First stop was Church Stretton in Shropshire for lunch at our fav little cafe Berry's......it's a bit tucked away but well worth searching out.......homemade soup with cheese scone, slice of cheese and chutney......YUMMY!
From there we drove along Wenlock edge with it's spectacular views to Much Wenlock.......a lovely little town with some nice shops including Twenty Twenty Gallery where I bought a nice pair of earrings.
Then it was onto WENLOCK PRIORY......it was lovely walking around in the sunshine......will leave you with some of the pics.

A lovely day:)

Santos

I like SANTOS DOLLS

So, decided to make one of my own.
It's been a WIP for quite a while but today it is finished......well, almost, I still want a necklace for it but that will come when I find the right thing for it.

The crown is a little over-sized but I like that!
It is made around a cookie cutter

I used one of those brown papier mache torsos for the body, added a doll head, used some strips of bamboo from a place mat for the struts and a base from an old dressform.

Lots of paint on the body section and stand

 Crackle glaze on the face.....
I like the randomness of the effect.....some areas crackled, some not.

One glass eye

and four old doll heads!

I found these old doll heads today.......all the heads I use for altering so far have been from more modern dolls so I was excited to get these old ones.
I don't think I am going to alter these but find some way of displaying them.

The big head came with just one glass eye:)

The back of the bog head has these markings.....I looked them up and the MOA stands for Max Oscar Arnold company who made dolls in Germany from 1878-1930......so it is pretty old.
